Kilometer
The kilometer (symbol km) is a unit of length, created in 1790, worth 1,000 meters1.It is the multiple of the meter most frequently used to measure terrestrial distances (for example: between cities). Kilometer points are thus defined along communication routes, which are materialized on roads by road markers.The linear kilometer is also used in the field of archives, to quantify their volume; it corresponds to the cumulative length of the shelves occupied by the documents[ref. necessary].The symbol for the prefix kilo- is the lowercase k.
Meter
The meter is the unit of measurement par excellence since the origin of this unit comes from the Latin "metrum" and the Greek "metron" which mean measure. It is also this unit which gives its name to the diplomatic treaty which formalizes the decimal metric system: the convention of the meter, signed on May 20, 1875 by 17 nations, which today provides its basis for the International System of Units (SI).
