Kilometer
The kilometer (symbol km) is a unit of length, created in 1790, worth 1,000 meters1.It is the multiple of the meter most frequently used to measure terrestrial distances (for example: between cities). Kilometer points are thus defined along communication routes, which are materialized on roads by road markers. The linear kilometer is also used in the field of archives, to quantify their volume; it corresponds to the cumulative length of the shelves occupied by the documents[ref. necessary].The symbol for the prefix kilo- is the lowercase k.
