Grain / Ton Units Definition
Grain
The grain is an ancient unit of measurement, either of mass or of length (Gn). It converts a dry unit to wet.The addition of a few grains in addition to the legal weight of a (coin) allowed a coin exposed to wear to retain its legal weight longer; this is what is called the stumbling which allows the balance to be moved1.Originally, this grain could have been a common grain such as a grain of barley, wheat or rye, or a smaller grain2.
Ton
The ton (symbol t) is a unit of mass which is worth one thousand kilograms, or 1,000 kg1. We can also write: 1 ton = 1×103 kg. Sometimes, to distinguish it from other tons used in particular in the United States and in certain technical fields, it is called a “metric ton”. It is equivalent to 2,204.622,621,849 imperial pounds (lbs). The tonne appears in Table 8 of the SI2 brochure: it is not a unit of the international system (SI), but its use associated with the SI is accepted because of its important practical role.
