Canton / Hectare Units Definition
Canton
A canton is a type of administrative division of a country. In general, cantons are relatively small in terms of area and population when compared with other administrative divisions such as counties, departments, or provinces. Internationally, the most politically important cantons are the Swiss cantons. As the constituents of the Swiss Confederation, theoretically and historically, they are semi-sovereign states.
Hectare
hectare, unit of area in the metric system equal to 100 ares, or 10,000 square meters, and the equivalent of 2.471 acres in the British imperial system and the customary measurement of the United States. The term is derived from the Latin area and hect, an irregular contraction of the Greek word percent. Although the are is the primary metric unit of land measurement, the hectare is more commonly used in practice. The hectare is, by definition, equal to one djerib in Turkey, one jerib in Iran, one gong qing in mainland China, one manzana in Argentina and one bunder in the Netherlands.
